Ext4Kit

Support

Ext4Kit is on the Mac App Store.

Getting started

  1. Open Ext4Kit and click Open File System Extensions Settings.
  2. Turn on Ext4Module. The Ext4Kit window turns green on its own.
  3. Plug in an ext4 drive. It appears in Finder within a few seconds.

Common questions

My drive says read-only. Either writing is not unlocked yet (see the Writing card in Ext4Kit), or the drive uses a feature Ext4Kit does not write to yet: bigalloc, casefold, quota, or encryption. The Ext4Kit window says which.

"The disk you attached was not readable." The extension is turned off in System Settings, or macOS has not registered it yet. Open Ext4Kit and follow the status card; if it says the extension is enabled, unplug and replug the drive.

Do I need to eject? Yes, like any disk. Eject from Finder or from the Ext4Kit window before unplugging. If a drive was unplugged without ejecting, Ext4Kit replays its journal on the next mount, the same way Linux does.

I bought Write Access on another Mac. Click Restore Purchase in Ext4Kit; purchases follow your Apple ID.

Reporting a problem

Click Copy Diagnostics Command in Ext4Kit, paste it into Terminal, and email the resulting ext4kit-log.txt from your Desktop to ext4kit@gmail.com with a short description of what you did and what happened. The log contains the extension's messages only, never your files.
